Frequently Asked Questions

When does Sunny’s Pedal start and end?

The ride begins with a kick off party at Lewis & Clark High School on Saturday, August 10th 2013.  The kick off will begin at 8:30am and our pedals will get rolling at 9am!  We will finish with another celebration, 580ish miles later, in Sun Valley, ID on Friday, August 17th.

Are helmets required?

Yes! Your safety is numero uno!  All riders will be required to wear a helmet the entire ride.  And, we STRONGLY encourage you to wear a helmet on all of your training rides as well.

Where can I find a route map?

You can click "2013 Route" at the top of this page to see an overview of the bike ride.  Route maps are included in our riders packets too.

You can also CLICK HERE to load an interactive Google map!

Where do we sleep?

Where we sleep will depend on the types of accommodations that we can secure for donation.  Camping, church floors, community centers, etc.  Our host schedule will be out by mid-June.  As a rider, we encourage you to reach out to places along the route and see if you can find a killer host site.

What does it cost?

FULL ROUTE RIDERS: ï»¿Each full week rider is required to raise $1000.  95% of the money raised will go directly to organ donation.

DAILY RIDERS: It is $150 per day for those that would like to ride a day or two.

I am a biking newbie, can I do this?

Of Course!  While this ride is not a professional bike tour, we believe with the right training anybody could do this.  We will have a support vehicle each day, and a lunch stop with food for you provided by Sunny’s Pedal.

How do I get to and from the start/finish?

Sunny’s Pedal will get you from the start to the finish on your bike, but it is up to you to get to Spokane and get home from Sun Valley.  Use our Facebook page to see if you can find riders to car pool with!

How do I get my bike to and from the ride?

There are lots of options.  We are currently working with bike shops about rentals, and may have more information out to you shortly.  If  you are flying we suggest flying with your bike.  Bike shops usually will give you a cardboard bike box for transport.  Sunny’s Pedal will look at seeing if a local shop in Sun Valley will save some for us for the return.  You can also ship your bike to Spokane.   Sunny’s cousin, Janine Fraser, has generously offered up her home as shipping location.  Please contact Sunny’s Pedal for her address.

Will the course be closed to motorized traffic?

No.  We will be sharing the road with other users.  For this reason Sunny’s Pedal does not allow head phones to be worn while riding and requires all riders to wear a helmet.  Riders should understand the rules of the road.  Riders will be required to attend a brief safety meeting prior to the kick-off party.

How do I register for the tour?
